
Valencia, the best city in the world to live in according to a global survey
Every year,
InterNations
interviews more than 15,000 migrants from around the world to find out the best and worst places to live.
The company recently revealed its latest Ranking of Cities for Emigrants 2020, which ranks 66 cities around the world by analyzing factors such as work life, urban quality of life and local cost of living. According to InterNations,
Valencia (Spain)
is the best city in the world to live in. In evaluating it, respondents considered affordable and easily accessible health care, along with abundant leisure options, good weather and low housing costs.
Alicante, Malaga and Madrid: 2, 6 and 9 positions
Around the world, Spain has proven to be a dominant country. Of the top ten cities entered in the ranking, four are Spanish: Valencia (1), Alicante (2), Malaga (6) and Madrid (9).
Only Barcelona is lower in the ranking, ranking 25 out of 66. “The results from Spain make it clear that expatriates are enjoying life in Spain,” said Mal Zeeck, founder of Internations. “What the five cities have in common are good to excellent results in the Settlement and Urban Quality of Life Indices, ” Zeeck concluded.
Rome, Milan, Paris and Dublin among the 10 worst
The other extreme, that of the 10 worst cities in the world to live in, is headed by Salmiya (Kuwait). Respondents criticized the difficulties of settling in, as well as the language or poor chances of finding work.
Four European cities are on this list : two Italian cities , Rome (position 65 of 66) and Milan (position 63 of 66); the French capital, Paris (ranked 61 of 66); and the Irish capital, Dublin (ranked 58 of 66).

All seem to fail on the same thing: high-priced housing and difficulty finding a job.
San Francisco or Los Angeles in the United States also do not fare well in the rankings. For its part,
New York City has moved up in rank.
If last year it was ranked as the ninth worst city to live in–position 74 out of 82–this year it ranked number 34.
When it comes to the United States as a whole, The country also fared better in this year’s list. “If we look at the national context of the expatriate city rankings, the United States ranks 27th out of 58 countries in the Expat Insider 2020 survey, so it is up 20 positions from 47 out of 64 countries in 2019,” Zeeck stated.
A survey in which Spain is highly regarded but, yes, it was conducted in March 2020,
before covid-19 entered our lives.
